Do I need an account to commission someone?
No, and you never will. You send a request with your email, and everything, confirmation, acceptance, progress, payments, happens over email and your private tracking link.
What is the tracking link?
When a maker accepts your request, you receive a private link (kotsu.shop/track/…). It shows every step, photo and payment of your commission. Treat it like a key: anyone with the link can see the page.
How do payments work?
Two possible modes, chosen by your maker. 1) Payment on Kotsu (when the maker has enabled it): you pay from the Kotsu page and the money goes directly to the maker's account. Accepted: PayPal account, Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover cards without any PayPal account required, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal Pay Later in 4 installments, and local methods depending on your country. 2) Manual payment: bank transfer, direct PayPal, or whatever you and the maker agreed; Kotsu records the payment without processing it. In both cases Kotsu never holds the funds.
What are approval steps?
Key moments (foam base, fur layout, final photos…) where the maker waits for your explicit go-ahead before continuing. Check the photos, then approve or request a change, while it's still easy to fix.
Am I protected without escrow?
Your card or PayPal protections stay fully intact because you pay directly. On top of that, KOTSU keeps the proof: the terms you accepted, versioned; your approvals; every photo and message, timestamped. See Trust & safety for the full picture.
How do I leave a review?
After delivery you get an email with a private review link. Only delivered KOTSU commissions can be reviewed, that's why every review says Verified order.
For makers
What does KOTSU cost?
Free until you accept your first commission, then Studio (19 €/mo) or Pro (39 €/mo). No percentage, ever, see Pricing.
How do requests reach me?
Clients fill your structured form: budget, deadline, ref sheet (required), measurements matched to the commission type, your own custom questions. It lands in your queue with a completeness check.
What happens when I accept a request?
KOTSU creates the commission: milestone checklist from your template, payment schedule from your deposit policy, and the client gets their tracking link automatically.
Can I refuse low-budget requests automatically?
Yes, set a minimum budget in Settings → Request form. Under-budget requests are declined with your message before they reach your queue.
How do wave openings work?
Schedule a window in Settings → Availability: the form opens and closes by itself, you can cap the number of requests, and your followers get an email with the date.
What about my clients' ref sheets?
Private, always. Refs live in private storage, are only visible to you and your client, and never appear on public pages.
Do my clients see my costs or notes?
No. Private notes stay private, and you control what the tracking page shows (payments, references) per commission.
